Paulsen, Moving on Up

December 8, 2011

Thinking Paulsen is a replacement for Fred Davis is definitely a mistake. That was one thing that Kyle Shanahan wanted to point out about the Redskins’ new starter at TE, Logan Paulsen.

“These are two totally different players,” he said. “Fred’s a pretty special player in the passing game, and not everyone can do what Fred can do. You’ve got to take that into account and figure out the things that [Paulsen] does best, and put him in the best situation to be successful.”

Paulsen is looking at his fourth career start on Sunday since entering the NFL undrafted in 2010. In his two seasons with the Redskins, Paulsen has caught 9 passes for 105 yards and one touchdown. In game 7 versus Carolina, Paulsen gave a glimpse of his abilities as a possession TE, catching 2 passes for 24 yards apeice. Normally known for his blocking, it will be interesting to see how Kyle integrates him into the offense against the 32nd ranked defense in the NFL.

Just as a reminder, the Patriots hold a solid… 32nd in pass defense, and 10th in rush defense. That still doesn’t mean the Redskins passing game should get much better this week. Not with Rex Grossman at the helm. But who knows, Rex could have one of his random shining moments and hit Paulsen 8 times for 2 billion yards.

Enough BS. I’m looking forward to seeing Paulsen in action, and you should, too.
