Weapons and Armor

December 5, 2011

Players

Weapons and Armor. If football were a soldier then his skill positions would be his weapons, and his blockers the armor. The Redskins have just lost vital parts of both.

Tackle Trent Williams and tight end Fred Davis have been suspended for the remaining four games due to substance abuse. Fred Davis, leads the Redskins receiving corps with 59 receptions for 796 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Redskins’ offense started to show promise with Rex playing a little more sane, and Roy Helu establishing himself as an every down back. But I fear without their #1 offensive playmaker, and arguably their strongest lineman, the Redskins could go back on that downward spiral they are working themselves out of.

The first thing we hear is that Williams and Davis had been identified as 2 of the 11 players who failed substance tests across the NFL. Subsequently they are the only 2 that are likely to face suspensions, as a result of failing multiple tests. Talk about adding insult to injury. Or throwing salt in a bloody wound. Or twisting the knife deeper. Or kicking you when you’re down. Or all the above…
