Game Recaps

The Redskins’ NFL Sunday started out with high hopes to grab their second win in 8 games against the (now) 7-5 Jets. The Jets, making a fourth quarter rally, go on to win against the struggling Redskins 34-19. The Redskins fall to 4-8 on the season, and haven’t won at home since September 18th against the Cardinals.

Fred Davis had a breakout game with 6 receptions for 99 yards including a long 42-yarder placing the Redskins in scoring range. Roy Helu shows promise as a starting back reaching the 100-yard mark with 23 carries and a touchdown. It goes without saying that the quarterback situation is still not solved with Rex Grossman posting very sub-par numbers at 19/46 for 221 yards. Rex seemed to start off strong, but only the productivity of Roy Helu would result in a touchdown. Rex has thrown only 1 touchdown in the last 3 games as a starter. It looks like the draft is getting ever juicier for the Redskins.

In the first 3 quarters of play, it seemed the game would be won by defenses. The fourth quarter was contrary to that theory, as the Jets scored three touchdowns, two of which at the churning feet of Shonn Greene in the last 4 minutes of play.  The Redskins defensive front was unable to reach Sanchez in week 13, being the first game this season without a sack. With LaRon Landry out due to injury, Reed Doughty got the start, posting only 1 tackle with 4 assists. London Fletcher, however, had a wonderful game with 9 tackles and 8 assists. The Redskins were unable to force a turnover.

The Redskins’ offensive production we saw in week 12 against the Seahawks was almost non-existant. The only light being in rookie runningback Helu. I am less than excited for next week. The Redskins face New England next week at home on Sunday at 1pm EST. Look forward to a pre-game analysis post on Tuesday.

Some Bright Spots:

With the Redskins’ current record, they are placed somewhere around 5th in next year’s draft… And that’s about it.
