WAS 23 – SEA 17

November 29, 2011

Game Recaps

Okay, okay. So the Redskins are 4-7 with a relatively tough road ahead. They face the Jets next week who hold a solid 6-5 record including a second win this week over the surprisingly productive Bills. Needless to say, they may have their hands full. But let’s not dwell on that, let’s go back to Seattle, back to the rain, and back to the win.

The Good Stuff:

Roy Helu, rushing for 108 yards on 23 carries, a rushing touchdown that came from one of the most amazing plays I have seen a Redskins back make in a long time, and 7 receptions for 54 yards? Needless to say, this kid is good when given opportunities. With the establishment of the run, the Redskins were able use play action effectively to  come back from a ten point deficit with a 16 point rally in the fourth quarter. How sweet it is to see a productive run game. No wonder they’re letting him keep the starting job 🙂

Santana Moss made his return debut from his broken hand catching 4 for 29 yards. While those aren’t huge numbers, it’s not expected to see a receiver recovering from a hand injury breaking out with huge numbers. He will get back to his old self and probably better in time.

Rex, Sexy Rexy, proved that every once-in-a-while that deep bomb just so happens to work out. Luckily, Anthony Armstrong was in perfect position to grab that one. Okay, Rex, okay. At 26 for 35 with 314 yards, 2 td’s and 2 INT’s, I’m feeling a little bit better about him. I would like to see a calmer Rex, not a “gunslinger”. When he stays calm and steps up in the pocket, 9-10 times he will deliver a strike. When he starts throwing into triple coverage, however, well… you get the point.

The Redskins’ defense moved to tie for first place in the NFL with a sack from LaRon Landry, and half sacks for Bowen and Orakpo. Yeah, I was shocked to find that out, too. Jackson being the no. 1 sacked QB in the league didn’t really help the Seahawks’ case anyway.

DeAngelo Hall grabbed his second interception of the year in the fourth quarter with :44 seconds on the clock, sealing the win for the Redskins. He’s a clutch player and I don’t think we will be seeing him go anytime soon. (Even after this BS)

The Bad Stuff:

2nd Quarter:

Graham Gano… Teddy Grahams… I understand that a blocked field goal isn’t really “your fault”, I just can’t sit back and believe that you couldn’t have angled that 23-yarder in the 2nd a little bit higher. Kick it at an 85 degree angle and it would have gone in just by trajectory.. Ugh. Whatever. Just don’t do it again.

4th Quarter:

Rex drops back, avoids a defender, BOMB to Anthony Armstrong for 50 yards! Nice. Now for the extra point…. I know that didn’t just happen again…

Yes, I understand that he isn’t the one blocking, but he IS the one kicking, and he needs to angle those close ones up a little more. Especially after the first block. Short of Graham kicking it a little higher, why did the line fold so terribly on both? After the first block, Trent Williams was thrown into the mix, and still, block. I can guarantee that Danny Smith has his hands full this week.

All in all, the Redskins rallied in the fourth to come up wit ha great win over the Seahawks. I liked the production on the offense, I would have liked a little more run protection, but hey.. A win is a win.

Hail.
